The Woodland Spa

Set within 100 acres of the most magnificent Lancashire countryside with its undulating rolling landscape, sensational woodland and lush verdant pasture, there is a true sense of intimacy and peace created by the surroundings of the Woodland Spa. The dramatic, distinct landscape is dominated by the impressive Pendle Hill – famous for its tales of Lancashire witches, sorcery and black magic in the 17th-century.

THE CHALLENGE

The multi award winning Woodland Spa contacted Thorne Access & Security Ltd as they required security systems of equal stature to the very high standards they provide. The Spa has over 200 private members, with 80 people visiting the Restaurant each day and 120 people visiting the Spa resulting in over 600 people in total using the leisure facilities on any given week. The safety of all visitors and the general security in the Spa has always been of paramount importance. A flexible seamless solution was needed to cater for the various different departments within the Spa – Hotel, Leisure, Restaurant, Bar & Spa.

THE SOLUTION

Thorne Access & Security Ltd had worked with Andrew Brown, MD of the Woodland Spa in the past and they had built a good working relationship based on quality and service. The Thorne engineers met with Andrew & G. Mcguigan Building Contractors. As a result Thorne recommended a networked Progeny Access Control System. Each department (Hotel, Leisure, Spa, Restaurant) has its own access with the use of computer controlled Mifare cards. This allows all staff to be allocated the specific access they require and it can all be controlled from one control point. A Samsung IP solution was recommended to provide the clarity that was required. The system is networked to allow users to access images via client software on the local network. Ian Mitchell Crow Woods Operations Manager comments “the CCCTV is amazing with HD crisp images. It is really useful to be able to review training needs, analyse the service we provide in our restaurant and ultimately it can be effectively used to resolve any customer issues.” The final part of the solution was to extend the existing Texecom Premier Elite Intruder Alarm System to cover the new Spa areas. This was done utilising the award winning Texecom expanders with Texecom Dual Technology Detectors providing the detection required.Spa 2

THE RESULT

Thorne installed a full access control system with an impressive CCTV system and alarm system.  Thorne has remote access to the system which provides full diagnostics.  This allows them to deactivate the systems, arm, disarm and isolate any particular identified zone and reset any part of the system remotely. Hadrian Thorne Managing Director at Thorne Access & Security comments “The system we installed at The Woodland Spa is state of the art. The high definition CCTV cameras cover all areas of the complex and the digital zoom capability of the cameras we have installed produce a phenomenal quality of image.  The equipment we have installed is also covered  by a maintenance contract which  ensures zero downtime.”
